The Golden Slipper 2011

The Golden Slipper

The 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes will be held on the 2nd of April at the Rosehill Racecourse and it will be staged over 1,200 metres. It is considered the most prestigious race for two-year-old horses at the Sydney Racing Carnival and the highest-paying with a prize purse of AUD$3.5 million. In this set weights race, colts and geldings must weigh 56.5 kilograms while fillies must carry a weight of 54.5 kilograms.

The grass turf of the Rosehill racecourse has a circumference of 2048 metres and a home straight of 408 metres. The racecourse features sweeping turns and all races here are staged clockwise. Given the short distance of the race, sprinters have an advantage in the Golden Slipper Stakes and 37 out of 54 Golden Slipper Stakes have been won by colts or geldings.

The winner of the race will get $2 million and the winning owner, trainer and jockey will get trophies worth $22,750, $3,250 and $3,250 respectively. The runner-up will get $620,000 while the third place finisher will take home $310,000. The fourth place finisher will get $190,000 and finishing at fifth nets $130,000. The sixth to tenth place finishers will each get $50,000. For those who finished outside the top ten, a $200 starter’s subsidy will be given.
