About Warwick Farm Races
Just like the Randwick Racecourse, the Warwick Farm Racecourse is also administered by the Australian Jockey Club to make it one of the most prestigious racetracks in New South Wales. It is located 30 kilometres from the central business district of Sydney and it is home to 15 horse racing spectacles each year including racing carnivals during the spring and autumn.
The Australian Jockey Club purchased the track in 1922 and the first AJC-organized race in Warwick Farms was staged in 1925 in front of 25,000 Australian horse racing patrons. The Warwick race turf has a circumference of 1,937 metres and a straight of 326 metres. Horse racing fans consider it as a tight track for it has sharp turns on the 1200 metre marks.
Because of its layout, thoroughbreds that will have a good kick from the starting block will do great most of the time and chasing horses must run very wide. The Warwick Farm Racecourse has starts for races from 1000 metres to 2200 metres and plays host to several New South Wales Polo games each year. There are also two grass training tracks and one sand training track in the Warwick horse racing facility.
Some of the famous horse races that are staged at Warwick Farm during Autumn are the 1600-metre, Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes, the 1400-metre, Group 2 Surround Stakes and the 1200-metre, Group 3 Liverpool City Cup which are all held in March. Meanwhile, this horse racing tracks is also home to the 1100-metre, Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes for two-year-old horses.
The race scene in Warwick Farm is also blossoming during Spring due to events such as the 1000-metre, Group 2 AJC Challenge Stakes and the 1400-metre, Group 2 Warwick Stakes. The Warwick Farm race track also plays host to August events such as the 1200-metre, Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes for three-year-old fillies and the 1200-metre, Group 3 Up and Coming Stakes for three-year-old geldings and colts.
Also a part of the Warwick horse racing calendar are the 1200-metre listed open Show County Quality Handicap and the 1400-metre listed open Toy Show Quality Handicap. These roses have been widely watched and bet by horse racing fans in New South Wales and in Australia.
