About the Rosehill Races
The Rosehill Gardens horse racing track is a majestic looking course that is located just 20 minutes to the west of the central Sydney district. The Sydney Turf Club facilitates the races and maintains the amenities and facilities of the racecourse. It has a grass track that is 2048 metres in circumference and a straight of 408 metres with sweeping turns. Races here are staged clockwise.
The Rosehill racecourse was built in 1885 for £17,000. Nowadays, its complex includes four training tracks, one of which is grass, another is sand and two are cinder. The Rosehill Gardens horse racing complex also has a grandstand, a pavilion, a seating deck and a three-tiered stand that houses bars, restaurants, VIP boxes and bookmaker facilities.
This racetrack is home to some of the best horse racing spectacles in Australia such as the Kingston Town Stakes. All in all, one horse racing season in Rosehill features eight Group 1, sixteen Group 2 and eight Group 3 races.
The Rosehill Gardens horse racing track is also home to the Autumn Racing Carnival which packs 18 intense Group status races over three Saturdays. The carnival has a total prize pool of $11 million and it attracts the best thoroughbreds in the country. The highlight event of the Autumn Racing Carnival is the 1200-metre Golden Slipper Stakes for two-year-old roses which carries a prize pool of $3.5 million.
Also included in the Autumn Racing Carnival are the $500,000, 2000-metre Group 1 Rosehill Guineas for three-year-olds, the $2.25 million, 2400-metre Group 1 BMW which is a weight-for-age race and the $400,000, 1500-metre Group 1 George Ryder Stakes.
Other races that are part of the Autumn Racing Carnival are the $600,000, 1500-metre Group 1 Coolmore Stud Classic for fillies and mares, the $400,000, 2000-metre Group 1 Ranvet Stakes, the $250,000, 1400-metre Group 2 Apollo Stakes, the $150,000, 1500-metre Group 2 Ajax Stakes and the $400,000, 1500-metre Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes.
The Rosehill racecourse also hosts spectacular spring horse races which include the $1 million, 1400-metre Group 1 Golden Rose for three-year-olds, the $200,000, 1300-metre Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes Quality Handicap for three-year-olds, the $150,000, 1500-metre Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes for three-year-old fillies, the $150,000, 1990-metre Group 2 Hill Stakes and the $250,000, 1800-metre Group 3 Gloaming Stakes.
Making it to the Rosehill racecourse is easy. By train, the nearest train station to it is the Rosehill station on the Carlingford line. From there, the racecourse itself is 400 metres away. By bus, the Veolia Transport in New South Wales has a route to Alfred Street and you just have to walk along Oak Street to arrive at Rosehill Gardens.
By car, the racecourse is just 30 kilometres away from the central business district of Sydney along the James Ruse Drive. You may take the M2 or the Western Motorway from Sydney to arrive here. Free parking within the Rosehill Garden horse racing track is available at the Unwin Street entrance.
