The Port Lincoln Races:
The Port Lincoln Racing Club started its operations in the early 1920s at the agricultural-rich area of Communga. Back then, horse racing patrons attended picnic-styled race meetings which delight racing attendees. The Port Lincoln Racing Club then merged with the North Shields Racing Club in 1946 and their operations were moved to Ravendale Park.
At present, the Ravendale Park racing complex has a circumference of 36.88 hectares and it is just four kilometres to the south of the Port Lincoln central business district. The racing complex’ main attraction, the Ravendale Park Racecourse, is a grass track which has a circumference of 1550 metres and a home straight of just 280 metres. All races here are staged counter-clockwise.
The Port Lincoln Races has four starting chutes that cater to various race distances. The different race distances also have different distances coming into the first turn. For the 1400-metre race, the distance from the starting area to the first turn is just 175 metres. For the 1200-metre and the 1700-metre race, the distance before the turn is 210 metres.
The distance from the start to the first turn of a 1000-metre race is 230 metres while the distance from the start to the first turn of a 1250-metre race and a 1750-metre race is 260 metres. A 1350-metre race has a start to first turn distance of 360 metres while the 1910-metre and 1950-metre races have a start to first turn distance of 420 metres.
Thoroughbreds which are running at the inside part of the Ravendale Park Racecourse has a huge advantage and the track has a huge sweeping turn from the 900-metre mark of the race track. Races at the Port Lincoln Racecourse are usually held from September to January. While you can enjoy the races as a normal patron, you can gain more benefits by signing up as a member of the Port Lincoln Race Club.
You can purchase a single full membership for $77 and you can buy two full memberships for $135. Horse racing patrons of at least 65 years old can buy a full senior membership for $40 while two full senior memberships are worth $70.
