About the Kalgoorlie Races
Horse racing in Kalgoorlie started in 1896 wherein horse racing was staged in a number of tracks throughout the Goldfields of Western Australia. However, some of these horse racing circuits did not last long and the horse racing tracks of Boulder, Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie became the most prestigious horse racing turfs in the region.
Since 1943, the racing club of Coolgardie has been conducting races at the Kalgoorlie racecourse. While they are still doing so until recent times, Coolgardie is still an independent racing club. However, the horse racing clubs of Boulder and Kalgoorlie merged in March 1953 after years of difference. In 1954, the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club had its first general meeting.
According to the club’s website, the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club is one of the best country racing clubs in Western Australia and it is the venue of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Race Round which is held during the second week of September. In one racing season, the Kalgoorlie-Boulder racecourse hosts 25 race meets and two of which are sanctioned by the Coolgardie Racing Club.
