About the Gosford Races:
The Gosford Racecourse is an hour’s drive away from Sydney via the F3. From the Gosford exit, you must travel through the Central Coast Highway until you reach West Gosford where the horse racing track is located. The track is being maintained by the Gosford Racing Club and it is also located 91 kilometres south of Newcastle.
The Gosford Racecourse hosts two major Australian horse racing events. The first one is the Gosford Gold Cup which has prize money of $150,000. The other major race is the $100,000 Raine & Horne Gosford Bell of the Turf Stakes. Both races are part of the Gosford Spring Racing Carnival which runs for one month starting at mid-October.
For the 2009 Gosford Gold Cup, jockey Josh Parr fulfilled his dream of lifting the race’s silverware in front of his home crown by steering Spinney to victory. The said thoroughbred is trained by Peter Snowden.
Other horse racing events that are held in this course are the Takeover Target Stakes, The New Year’s Eve Race Day, The Gosford 3 Y.O Guineas, the Christmas Day Race and the Anzac Race day. All of the races are staged clockwise in a turf with a circumference of 1710 metres and a 250 metre straight. The Gosford Racecourse also features a unique layout that emphasizes tight turns.
This horse racing track can cater to any event during race day and spectators usually gather in the JH Little Members Stand which is overlooking the winning post and the saddling area. Here, members of the Gosford Race Club can get privileges during the race day and the stand has a café area, areas for bookmakers, two totes that are separate from one another and two bar areas.
They can also take a spot at the MJ Cusick Stand. This stand has two levels and is open to the public. Its ground level contains the Riverdale Bar which contains a large bar area and a snack bar. However, this area is not air-conditioned but it has a courtyard of its own and it overlooks the betting ring.
Meanwhile, the second floor of the MJ Cusick Stand is an enclosed and air-conditioned area for patrons. It also has a bar, a snack area and bookmaker facilities. The top tier of the MJ Cusick Stand also has the Horsewalk Grill which you can dine in if you are into fine dining. Because of which, the Gosford racecourse is hailed as one of the horse racing tracks that have the best public facilities.
