About the Armidale Races

Located between Sydney and Brisbane on the New England Highway, Armidale is right at the heart of the New England Tablelands and it is two and a half hours away from the Australian coast along the scenic Waterfall Way. Town locals promote that the Armidale has a city ambiance in a country lifestyle and they are proud in having the Armidale Race Track.

The Armidale Race Track has a circumference of 1600 meters while its straight is 320 meters. Horse races on this course are usually run under five distances: 1000-meter, 1100-meter, 1200-meter, 1400-meter and 1900-meter. Races are run counter-clockwise and there are seven to eight races in this horse racing track every Saturday and Sunday.

The highlight event of the Armidale Race Track is the Armidale Cup that is just one of the eight races during the Armidale Cup weekend. This spectacle is such a big event in the Cathedral City that it was declared as a half-day holiday.

The other races that are included in the special horse racing day are the Hilliers Transport Slipper, The Richardson’s Hardware and Ag Modern, The Austral Bricks and Pavers Modern, the Armidale Ex-Services, The New England Real Estate, The Hardy’s Wines Newmarket and the Roberts and Morrow Fin Serv-Bm60.

The 2010 Toohey’s Armidale Cup was ran as race number seven and was participated by nine horses. By the time the 1900-meter race has ended, it was Prussian Secret that emerged victorious at 1:54.52. Prussian Secret is a sire of King of Prussia and Let’s Remember that is owned by Cody Morgan of Tamworth. It is trained by Leon Davies and Melissa Dennett and was steered to victory by Tim McIntosh.

Clocking in second is Straw Vote that is sired from Dangerous and Opinion Polls. It was trained by L.J Jeffries and was jockeyed by D.A. Jones. Coming in at third is Imahere that is sired from Dehere and Fatima and was bought by Brett Partelle at the 2005 MM Conrad Jupiters Yearling Sale for $67,500. Imahere is trained by Ms. C. Rose and was ridden by R.J. Agnew.

Rounding up the competitor’s list for the 2010 Armidale Cup are Grand Corso, Waratah Blaze, Set Alight, Alshyma, He’s Full of It and Pulse Maker. Of the nine competitors, only Prussian Secret, Straw Vote and Pulse Maker are from non-American stables.
