The Alice Springs Races
The Alice Springs Races is regarded as one of the most scenic racecourses in Australian and it is located seven kilometres away from the central business district of Alice Springs. Races at the complex known as Pioneer Park are governed by the Alice Springs Turf Club and it hosts about 33 horse races every year. Various non-racing activities can be conducted at its pavilions and lounges.
Horse racing at Alice Springs started at the Emily plain on the eastern side of town and it was then transferred in the Claypan site to the west of Macdowell. The first race meet at Pioneer Park was held in 1977 following the closure of the Mount Nancy Racecourse.
