» Melbourne Races
Melbourne Races have taken over as the pinnacle of Australian racing and boast five city tracks at four locations. Melbourne races are run at Caulfield, Flemington, Moonee Valley, and at both Sandown tracks, the Sandown Hillside and Sandown Lakeside track.
Caulfield Races
The Caulfield Cup is the biggest feature race to be decided at the Caulfield races. First run in 1879, the Caulfield Cup is the traditional lead up race for the Melbourne Cup.
Caulfield also boasts some big prizemoney races for your horses with the Blue Diamond Classic for year old horses Melbourne’s own version of the Golden Slipper while the three year olds line up in the Caulfield Guineas, a race that is quickly shaping Australian racehorse breeding industry.
Flemington Races
I can see this racecourse being renamed to honour The Cups King, Bart Cummings. At the very least there will have to be a grandstand renamed after the Flemington based trainer who has won Australia’s most famous race on 12 occasions, the last in 2008 with Viewed ridden to victory by Blake Shinn.
