Formerly known as the Melbourne Stakes, the LKS Mackinnon Stakes was first staged in 1869 and the inaugural race was won by Glencoe. Belmura Lad scored back-to-back victories in this race in 1980 and 1981 and he is the last horse to win multiple LKS Mackinnon Stakes titles.
