The Golden Rose Stakes is a Group 1 horse race that is stage over 1400 metres at the Rosehill racecourse in Sydney every late August or early September. This set weight event for three-year-old race horses has a prize purse of $1,000,000. For this race, fillies must have a set weight of 53.5 kilograms while geldings should have 55.5 kilograms.

Easily, it is the richest horse race in the Sydney spring racing carnival. And since it is the only horse race in the Sydney racing carnival which has a prize pool of up to $1,000,000, it is turning out to be one of the most anticipated spring races for three-year-old horses that are on the rise.

The Golden Rose Stakes was first staged in 2003 and it was brought to Group 2 status four years after and a Group 1 race in 2009. Most of the horses that compete in the Golden Rose Stakes have participated in lead up races such as the 1300-metre Run to the Rose, the 1200-metre Up and Coming Stakes and the 1200-metre Silver Shadow Stakes.

The Run to the Rose is held two weeks before the Golden Rose and it is a great gauge for winners and place getters at the Golden Rose. Meanwhile, the Up and Coming Stakes and the Silver Shadow Stakes which are both 1200 meters are held a week before the Run to the Rose.

The fastest winning time for the Golden Rose Stakes was recorded in 2007 when Forensics finished the race in 1:22.43 while 2003 winner Top Swing has the slowest winning time with 1:23.99. In 2009, Denman won the Golden Rose Stakes with Trusting and Stryker coming in at second and third respectively. Denman won the Run to the Rose before winning the Golden Rose.

Other Golden Rose victors that had successful Run to the Rose campaigns are 2005 Golden Rose winner Paratroopers who also won the 2005 Run to the Rose and Mentality who won the 2006 Run to the Rose but finished third at the Golden Rose during the same year. Meanwhile, 2009 Golden Rose runner-up Trusting won the Group 2 Warwick Stakes before finishing second.

El Cambio took the 2007 Run to the Rose but he placed second to Forensics at the 2007 Golden Rose. Meanwhile, Court Command won the 2006 edition and Duporth finished third at the 2008 edition of the Up and Coming Stakes before winning their respective Golden Rose runs.
