After a convincing win at the Clamms Seafood Stakes, Rightfully Yours might have earned a ticked to the 1400-metre, Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at the Caulfield racecourse. Trainer Mick Price says that he would discuss their strategy for Rightfully Yours who gives out his best when he is well-rested and when he runs on soft ground. With an upcoming run at the George Main Stakes, Reward For Effort continues to back trainer Peter Moody’s claim that he is the best sprinter in Australian horse racing. Reward for Effort notched a thrilling victory at the Group Three Concorde Stakes at the Rosehill racecourse to solidify Moody’s belief.

Rather than staying in Melbourne wherein race track conditions are wet, Moody chose to bring the horse to Rosehill and tallied a two-length victory over Winter King. After an impressive victory at the 2009 Blue Diamond Stakes, the George Main Stakes-bound Reward for Effort was inactive for a year due to a suspensory injury but he went back in grand fashion with a victory at the Monash Stakes last month.

Moody said that the best is yet to be seen from Reward For Effort but he strongly claims that the race horse is the best sprinter in Australia. Though Reward For Effort did not race for a year, he remained to be a competitive colt and he nearly won the Group 1  Golden Slipper on a dry racecourse. Moody added that they have to maintain the horse’s health.

Moody’s team also plans to have Reward For Effort run at the Manikato Stakes and the George Main Stakes to get another Group 1 victory. However, their plan would depend on the race day track conditions. Moody pointed out that Reward For Effort does not handle wet tracks very well.

During the Monash Stakes, jockey Nash Rawiller tried to overtake Reward for Effort which had a 3.60 betting odds. However, Rawiller and Winter King which carried an 8.50 betting odd coming into the race, remained on the inside of the 1100-metre sprint race. The George Main Stakes aspirant Reward For Effort got the lead place while Winter King stuck to his game plan to finish second.

Coming from the home turn, Trusting, with a 7.50 betting odd, claimed third place over Montana Flyer. Rawiller said that Reward For Effort is a very exciting galloper and he got the win pretty easily due to his “electric turn of foot”. Also, Winter King’s performance did not raise any concern from Rawiller. Also, trainer John Thompson applauded Trusting’s run for the race horse is not trained for 1100-metre races.

Like Reward For Effort, Trusting will head to the George Main Stakes after participating in either the Cameron Handicap at the Newcastle racecourse or the Theo Marks.

With his eyes set on the 1600-metre, Group 1 Toorak Handicap, trainer Mick Price is upbeat about Spacecraft’s chances at the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap at the Flemington racecourse. Formerly trained by Danny O’ Brien, Spacecraft will make his debut under trainer Mick Price. With jockey Craig Newitt on board, Spacecraft had an impressive jumpout during the week.

While champion jockey Damien Oliver does most of the work with Spacecraft, Newitt has seen the son of Galileo’s improvement during the past weeks and he only partnered with him last Tuesday in an 800-metre jumpout against Australian Horse of the Year candidate Typhoon Tracy. Newitt said that he could not ask a better run from Spacecraft during the jumpout.

Newitt added that he went to the line equally as good as Typhoon Tracy and his performance is impressive for a horse that runs for 1600 metres or longer. However, Newitt and Spacecraft’s team want to see if he is sharp enough to run six furlongs on Saturday. Though he has raced only seven time, Newitt believes that Spacecraft will put on a show.

Spacecraft has won at Caulfield and Moonee Valley but he competed last spring to gain a distant second to Hanks at the 2040-meter, Group 2 AAMI Vase at Mooney Valley. After a third place finish to Denman and Carrara at the 1200-metre Listed Zeditave Stakes, he trained off the autumn.

So far, his only public appearance for Price came last month when he ran a strong second at a 1000-metre barrier trial at the Geelong racecourse. The said trial was won by Bay of Poets. However, the Toorak Handicap hopeful won his maiden at Sale by four lengths. As of present, Newitt still has no idea why Spacecraft had an uneasy autumn campaign for he does not show any race problems.

A win on the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap would inch Spacecraft closer to compete at the Group One Toorak Handicap and potentially at bigger races such as the Caulfield Cup, the Melbourne Cup and the Cox Plate. Coming from the spring, he had a race rating of 85. Due to Spacecraft’s weight of 53 kilograms coming into the Group 3 race, Oliver searched for a runner in his weight range.

Oliver would take his chances at the Peter Moody-trained Group One winner Headway which comes in at 55.5 kilograms. However, Moody said that his horse will not compete if the track conditions are heavy. Last Thursday, Flemington had a heavy rating of eight.

Choi has been informed that Australian Horse Racing quarantine rules state that horses that are travelling from Macau to Australia must have a total of six week in isolation. The Choi-trained Luen Yat Forever and the Patrick Lee-trained Good Control entered the quarantine facility of the Macau Jockey Club in preparation for their campaign in Australia.

The protocol states that a race horse must be in confinement in Macau for three weeks and in Australia for another three more. This has forced Choi to come up with another plan as he expects his prize horse to be declared clear to race on the 18^th of September. MJC Director of Racing Reid Sanders said that they were advised about the three-week quarantine period in Australia.

The 2010 Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill races on Saturday proves to be a duel between the best horses from Victoria and New South Wales. New South Wales’ defense of their home racecourse will be lead by the David Payne-trained Masquerader which has an identical 4.60 betting odd with Toorak Toff. His only defeat came during the Run to the Rose when he finished behind Squamosa which is trained by Gai Waterhouse.

Coming into that race, Masquerader is five kilograms lighter than Squamosa. Masquerader has shown that he can adapt to various race conditions but the barrier draw on Thursday would determine how jockey Glyn Shofield would navigate him.

On the other hand, the unbeaten colt Squamosa has been discarding the opposition that is blocking his way to victory and he will be steered by Nash Rawiller during the Golden Rose Stakes. This son of Not a Single Doubt will run straight to try and get the victory.

No matter how great these race horses are, the barrier draw on Thursday is a big factor that will seal their fate for the 2010 Golden Rose Stakes. The competition for the remaining slots for the $1 million Golden Rose might be decided in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday. Smith said that even though she was a bit slow to mature, Slow The Flow had a fantastic pace and they have trained her since she was two years old. Now, Smith is just marveling with the development of his horse and that she had an impressive run over the last couple of months.

Smith remembered the development that Slow The Flow went through that he claimed that you might think that you are looking at two different horses if you took a picture of her before her initial race in Newcastle last May and another before her recent race at Rosehill.

For the Silver Shadow Stakes, Slow The Flow will start from the fourth barrier and her toughest competitors are Solar Charged and Chance Bye. However, Smith said that his horse suits the fast pace of the race.

Meanwhile, trainer Anthony Cumming would want his race horse Gybe to get into the Golden Rose Stakes no matter what. Ever since her victory at the Gimcrack Stakes, Gybe has only raced once and is in the 33rd spot in the order of entry at the Golden Rose Stakes. Cummings is hoping that his horse will win this week to make the Golden Rose stint possible.

Cummings said that she is still a borderline for the Golden Rose even though she is a classy filly. As per the Silver Shadow Stakes betting odds, Solar Charged has a 3.25 betting odd while Obsequious has a 4.40 betting odd. Slow The Flow and Gybe have betting odds of 15.00 and 17.00 respectively.

Following Winter King’s win at the Starlight Stakes at the Rosehill races, trainer David Payne has his eyes set on the Group 1 the Manikato Stakes in Melbourne. Winter King controlled the Listed event from wire to wire in a race that was not grazed by high-class colt Hinchinbrook who was taken out of competition the morning before the race due to an elevated temperature.

Coming into the Starlight Stakes, Hinchinbrook was the pre-race favourite. However, his withdrawal meant that Winter King became the race horse to beat in the five-horse field as the gelding carried a 1.80 betting odd coming into the 1100-metre Starlight Stakes. The four-year-old horse gave his fans something to cheer about as he won over stablemate Centennial Park by 1 ¼ lengths to claim his first stakes victory.

After the Starlight Stakes, Winter King would go on to the 1100-metre, Group 3 Concorde Stakes on the 28^th of August before Payne brings Winter King’s campaign to Melbourne at the 1200-metre Manikato Stakes at the Mooney Valley racecourse on September 24. Payne said that they will seriously consider a run at the Manikato Stakes.

Payne also said that ever since Winter King has been gelded, his preparation was brought up a notch higher. He also said that Moonee Valley is a course for frontrunner and it competing there is like a dream come true for him.

Payne also added that Winter King might have taken the next step and that he has learned to navigate 1200 metres efficiently. Also, Payne is happy about the performance of Centennial Park first-up for he came from last place to challenging Winter King in the straight.

Jockey Hugh Bowman steered Centennial Park to the outside and he got to within striking distance of Winter King with 100 metres to go before Winter King pulled away. Meanwhile, jockey Glyn Schofield got a hat trick of victories with his ride with Winter King after taking the reins of Mustard and We Betcha to victory. Schofield let Winter King take his time to cross Motspur to get to the fence. However, having a race run to suit, Schofield said that it will take a very good horse to run him down.

Schoefield was also surprised with the ease of his travel on the straight and when Centennial Park made his move. However, Schoefield maintained his composure to win the race with Winter King.
