The 2003 Doncaster Handicap was won by Grand Armee in 1 minute, 36.8 seconds while Dash for Cash claimed a runner-up finish. Boreale finished the 2003 Doncaster Handicap in third place. Grand Armee was also trained by Gai Waterhouse and this once gelding has seven wins in 19 races. Grand Armee is sired by American-bred Hennessy and is the dam of Tambour.

Grand Armee was poised to win back-to-back Doncaster Miles but Private Steer thwarted his hopes by winning the 2004 Doncaster Handicap in 1 minute, 35.5 seconds while Ambulance finished in third place.
