Prior to competing in the Golden Rose Stakes most horses would have to race in other smaller race events first in order to qualify for the $1 million race event in September.
The Rosebud and the Run to the Rose are two horse racing events that serve as lead up races to the Golden Rose Stakes. The Rosebud is a 1,200 meter sprint race and the most recent race was held last Saturday, August 6, 2011.
The winner in that racing event is Aeronautical who is a two year old horse trained by Lionel Cohen. Aeronautical won over other distinguished horses such as Chivvy and Al’s Magic Miss. Prior to the Rosebud people were excited to see Al’s Magic Miss win the event but this filly only came in at 6th place.
Most people were surprised that Chivvy didn’t even place and this horse came up with a disastrous result with him ending up as the last horse to cross the finish line. The horses that followed Aeronautical were Bello (2nd) and Queenian (3rd). With his latest victory, Aeronautical is now placed at $9.00 to win in the Golden Rose Stakes.
The Golden Rose Stakes is a horse racing event designed for three-year old horses belonging to the Group 1 set-weight race category. This race is held every year in the month of September when the Spring Racing Carnival of Sydney is in full swing.
The distance of the race is about 1,400 meters which is basically a sprint race for most horses. This event is worth $1 million, which could attract many punters from across the nation. The last horse to have won the Golden Rose Stakes was Toorak Toff, who won it just last year. Squamosa came in after Toorak Toff and Ilovethiscity came in third place in the 2010 Golden Rose Stakes horse racing event.
