Absolutely Scores Upset Oaks Win

The Mick Kent trained Absolutely scored an upset win in the running of the 100th G1 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick last weekend. Ridden by jockey Brad Rawiller, the 30/1 shot was the beneficiary of a rails hugging ride by Rawiller who sailed through along the inside the score a convincing three and a half length victory over race favourite Shamrocker.
The race proved to be some consolation for her breeder Rick Jamieson who bred and sold Black Caviar.
Kent had some concerns about the Redoute’s Choice filly getting the 2400m trip of the Oaks and had nominated the filly for a race at Flemington but Jamieson was adamant the filly would get the 2400m trip.
Shamrocker was a game run in second place but she did seem to be a bit one paced just grinding away to the line. Probably paid the price for her victory last start in the AJC Derby.
Another Victorian visitor in Pinker Pinker ran on well late to take home third share of prizemoney.
The other fancy in the race was Brazilian Pulse who enjoyed a good run throughout on the rails just off the speed but failed to fire a shot in the run to the line. Forget it went around, obviously didn’t handle the track.
