The Golden Slipper Stakes is a 1,200-metre set weights race that is held at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney, Australia. This race is exclusive for two-year-old race horses and it has a prize pool of about AUD$3.5 million. The prize purse makes this race the richest for two-year-old horses around the world. Colts and geldings must weigh 56.5 kilograms while mares must weigh 54.5 kilograms.
The Golden Slipper Stakes has been staged 54 times with colts and geldings winning 37 of them. Trainer T.J. Smith is the most successful trainer in Golden Slipper Stakes history with six victories courtesy of Fairy Walk in 1971, John’s Hope in 1972, Hartshill in 1974, Toy Show in 1975, Bounding Away in 1986 and Star Watch in 1988.
As for the jockeys, Ron Quinton and Shane Dye have the most number of Golden Slipper wins with four apiece while Mick Dittman, Kevin Langby and Athol Mulley have three apiece. In the 2007 Golden Slipper Stakes, Forensics took home the top spot by completing the race at 1 minute, 9.3 seconds. Finishing second is Zizou while coming in at third is Meurice.
