Powerhouse racing stable Godolphin has expressed its interest in winning the 2010 Melbourne Cup at the Flemington Racecourse on the 2nd of November by parading Holberg, Campanologist and Eastern Aria in what would be their strongest suit at the $6 million dollar race in recent years.
The three race horses will make the trip to Australia to claim the Melbourne Cup for the first time after some close calls. Throughout Godolphin’s history, they have produced three Melbourne Cup runner-ups in Central Park in 1999, Give the Slip in 2001 and Crime Scene in 2009.
However, they international horse racing powerhouse believes that they will get their maiden Melbourne Cup victory this year. Their best chance of getting that win is the five-year-old Holberg which currently has a 26.00 SportsBet early market betting odd.
The race horse earned a shot at the Melbourne Cup by winning the 1992-metre Foundation Stakes at Goodwood. Holberg is currently 36th in the order of entry and carries a Melbourne Cup weight of 53.5 kilograms.
Meanwhile, the Godolphin competitor for the 2010 Melbourne Cup which has the highest rating is two-time Group 1 winner and American-bred Campanologist. He is seventh in the order of entry and has a betting odd of 81.00.
On the other hand, Eastern Aria would like to have a shot at the Melbourne Cup as well despite being recently acquired by Godolphin. He qualified for the Melbourne Cup by winning the Park Hill Stakes and incurring a one-kilogram penalty for the victory. He is 39th on the order of entry and this race horse that is trained by Mark Johnston has a betting odd of 51.00
To tune up for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, Campanologist and Holberg will be quarantined starting on Sunday. The Godolphin trio is just some of the great international horses that are eyeing a 2010 Melbourne Cup victory.
Irish St. Leger winner Sans Frontieres is the highest rated foreign race horse while other European race horses such as Illustrious Blue and Profound Beauty are out to give the Australian race horses a run for their money.
Seven international race horses have already locked their place in the 24-horse Melbourne Cup final field and this number can go up to twelve. Some of the international race horses that have guaranteed Melbourne Cup spots are Luca Cumani’s Manighar and Drunken Sailor and Lloyd Williams’ Akmal and French thoroughbred Americain.
