Successful trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolen are looking forward to a successful run at the 2010 Caulfield Guineas with the colt Anacheeva which won the 1400-metre The Age Caulfield Guineas Prelude by a slim margin. Carrying a 10.00 betting odd, the young race horse pulled off an upset over the more popular Toorak Toff by a neck while the Sydney-based Skilled finished third.
After Anacheeva’s victory at the Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes at the Mooney Valley Racecourse four weeks prior to The Age Caulfield Guineas Prelude, he once again delivered a victory. On the other hand, the Golden Rose winner Toorak Toff had to work hard to get the runner-up spot. Though he initially covered the ground wide, he took the lead but he could not stop Anacheeva’s surge.
The Anacheeva victory got Moody a hat trick for the day’s races. In contrast, Toorak Toff trainer Rick Hore-Lacy still has his head up high as he is positive that his horse can pull of the 2010 Caulfield Guineas for he will battle the same field of Australian race horses at the said race in three weeks time.
After the Caulfield Guineas, Moody said that he would Give Anacheeva a rest and he would not push through for a shot at the Victoria Derby. He added that though Anacheeva has already shown flashes of brilliance, they would already look forward to the next racing carnival while the Anabaa colt takes a breather. Anacheeva is also the brother of former AJC Derby winner Headturner.
Meanwhile, trainer Paul Snowden is very happy with Skilled’s performance which is a major turnaround from his disappointing last place finish at last month’s Up and Coming Stakes. However, Snowden said that the Group 1-winning Commands colt is lazy at times and that he really has to be closely guided. Yet, Snowden sees a lot of upside on his two-year-old race horse.
After Skilled’s third-place finish, Paul Snowden’s Divorces went on to win the Thousand Guineas Prelude for fillies. Divorces won by a neck over Sistine Angel. Moody’s race horse Panipique came in third. After Divorce’s victory, Snowden said that her performance already took off her maiden status. The Thousand Guineas is the fillies-only race equivalent of the Caulfield Guineas.
