The Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes is a 1400-metre set weight horse race for three-year-old horses that is staged annually every late August or early September at the Rosehill racecourse in Sydney. It is the richest race at the Sydney spring racing carnival with prize money of $1,000,000.
The Golden Rose Stakes was first staged in 2003 and it was brought to Group 2 status four years after and a Group 1 race in 2009. Most of the horses that compete in the Golden Rose Stakes have participated in lead up races such as the 1300-metre Run to the Rose, the 1200-metre Up and Coming Stakes and the 1200-metre Silver Shadow Stakes.
The Run to the Rose is held two weeks before the Golden Rose and it is a great gauge for winners and place getters at the Golden Rose. Meanwhile, the Up and Coming Stakes and the Silver Shadow Stakes which are both 1200 meters are held a week before the Run to the Rose.
