The competition for the remaining slots for the $1 million Golden Rose might be decided in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday. The Up and Coming Stakes and Silver Shadow Stakes at the Warwick Farm racecourse, as well as the Mackenzie Stakes and the Crockett Stakes at the Mooney Valley racecourse, will be the races that will fill these slots.

The horse races which are gunning for a shot at the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes at the Rosehill racecourse a week later will give it their all to get a chance to race at the first Group One horse race of the season.
Local trainer Matthew Smith will have his horse Slow The Flow at the Silver Shadow Stakes but he will not push her to compete in the Golden Rose Stakes unless told otherwise. Smith said that he will see what happens and they would seriously consider a run at the Golden Rose if their horse won in grand fashion.

However, Smith added that they can also compete in the Princess Series for female race horses. Smith also said that they will take it race by race but he thinks that a more seasoned race horse would perform well in the Golden Rose.
In her second of three starts, Slow The Flow surprised punters last August 7 at the Randwick racecourse with an impressive victory. However, Smith was not surprised about his race horse’s ability since Gerry Harvey chose him to train the horse.

Smith said that even though she was a bit slow to mature, Slow The Flow had a fantastic pace and they have trained her since she was two years old. Now, Smith is just marveling with the development of his horse and that she had an impressive run over the last couple of months.

Smith remembered the development that Slow The Flow went through that he claimed that you might think that you are looking at two different horses if you took a picture of her before her initial race in Newcastle last May and another before her recent race at Rosehill.

For the Silver Shadow Stakes, Slow The Flow will start from the fourth barrier and her toughest competitors are Solar Charged and Chance Bye. However, Smith said that his horse suits the fast pace of the race.

Meanwhile, trainer Anthony Cumming would want his race horse Gybe to get into the Golden Rose Stakes no matter what. Ever since her victory at the Gimcrack Stakes, Gybe has only raced once and is in the 33rd spot in the order of entry at the Golden Rose Stakes. Cummings is hoping that his horse will win this week to make the Golden Rose stint possible.

Cummings said that she is still a borderline for the Golden Rose even though she is a classy filly. As per the Silver Shadow Stakes betting odds, Solar Charged has a 3.25 betting odd while Obsequious has a 4.40 betting odd. Slow The Flow and Gybe have betting odds of 15.00 and 17.00 respectively.

As for the Golden Rose Stakes, Masquerader has a 4.60 betting odd while Toorak Toff and Squamosa have betting odds of 5.00 and 6.00 respectively. Decision Time with a 13.00 Golden Rose Stakes betting odds will compete at the Up and Coming Stakes.
