Rosehill Race Track
As the richest race of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, the $1 million, 1400-metre Group 1 The Golden Rose Stakes, approaches, the traditional lead-up race for it will be staged at the scenic Rosehill races. The 1300-metre, Group 3 Run to the Rose is the ideal lead-up race for three-year-old aspirants of the Golden Rose and it has a prize money purse of $125,000. Twelve horses are scheduled to compete at this race with the scratching of From London.
Sports bet bookmaking odds reflect that the Gai Waterhouse-trained Squamosa is the pre-race favourite for the Run to the Rose. Squamosa currently has a betting odds of 2.00 as he tries to keep his perfect record of two win in two career starts and add a third victory in as many starts from the ninth barrier.
Right on Squamosa’s tail is David Payne’s Masquerader with a 4.20 betting odd from Sports Bet. Just like Squamosa, Masquerader also has an unbeaten record coming in to the Run to The rose. Last March, Masquerader won the 1200-metre, Group 2 Todman Slipper Trial. For the Run to The Rose, he would start from barrier six which is a good starting position if he wants to pull off an upset.
Not to be left behind are the other three-year-old horses in this race on Saturday which include the Encosta De Lago filly Sasa which has drawn to start from the third barrier and has a betting odd of 7.50 and consistent colt Testarhythm. Also in the mix is the Peter Snowden-trained Classics.
Before betting for the Golden Rose which will happen on August 28, punters will take notice on the top performers of the Run to the Rose. The 2010 Smithfield RSL Run to the Rose is the sixth race at the Rosehill racecourse on Saturday and it is due to start at 3:40 in the afternoon.
On the other hand, the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival action will also heat up as fifteen horses vie to be the winner of the 2010 Group 2 JJ Liston Stakes at the Caulfield races. This 1400-metre horse race has a prize purse of $200,000 and it includes a number of horses that would go on to compete at the 2010 The Cox Plate and the 2010 Melbourne Cup.
Since this year’s JJ Liston Stakes has a very open field, punters are having a hard time calling this race. Some of the top competitors for this year’s edition of the JJ Liston Stakes are 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking that would start from the seventh barrier and Cox Plate favourite Shoot Out that has drawn barrier ten. Meanwhile, the Bart Cummings-trained So You Think will start from barrier one, making him the pre-race favourite.
Not to be disregarded at the JJ Liston Stakes are the Anthony Cummings-trained Zavite, the English race horse Mourayan which is owned by Lloyd Williams and the High Chaparral galloper Monaco Consul. To give the local horses a good chance of winning, trainer Mick Price will bring back 2009 JJ Liston Stakes winner Predatory Pricer.
Price will also bring dual Group 1 winner Heart of Dreams to the mix. Heart of Dreams will start from the sixth barrier and will be handled by jockey Damien Oliver. With two great horse races over the weekend, you must head on to your favorite online horse race betting site and place your wagers.
