Military Rose to Miss Golden Rose

Rosehill Race Track

Trainer Gillian Heinrich has forced to abandon the campaign of Military Rose for next month’s $1 million, Group 1 The Golden Rose Stakes at the Rosehill racecs due his weight problems and wet tracks. Instead, the Magic Million winner will compete in Melbourne at the Group 1, 1200-metre Coolmore Stud Stakes at the Flemington races on the 30th of October during Derby Day.

Had Heinrich decided to nominate her filly for the 1200-metre The Rosebud at the Rosehill racecourse, Military Rose would have received 61 kilograms. Heinrich is convinced that Military Rose is not good in handling wet weather tracks and she pointed out the filly’s performance in the Golden Slipper as an example. Also, she is not happy about the current weight of Military Rose.

Last week, the filly scored a close victory at a 1000-metre barrier trial at the Gold Coast races. She will have another trial at either Doomben or the Gold Coast on the 12th of August before going to Melbourne. The Daughter of General Nediym, Military Rose will compete at the Group 2, 1200-metre Danehill Stakes at Flemington on the 4th of September

Then, she will compete at the Group 3, 1200-metre the Champagne Stakes at Mooney Valley races on the 24th of September. On October 9, she will compete at the Group 3, 1200-metre Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield races before she goes on to the Coolmore Stud Stakes. All of the four events that Military Rose will compete in will be staged under set weight and penalties and exclusive for three-year-old

On the other hand, the Rob Heathcote-trained Buffering showed that he is in top condition with a win in a 900-metre barrier trial at Doomben races last Tuesday. Mossman’s son is having his first taste of trackwork after his first loss in five career races when he finished third to Pressday in the 1200-metre, Group 2 the Champagne Classic.

Heathcote said that Buffering had a sensational trial and a good blow after winning by more than seven lengths. Heathcote added that his horse has improved significantly in his four-week rest after the Champagne Classic. For his spring campaign, Buffering will kick off at the 1000-metre, Group 3 San Domenico Stakes at Randwick with jockey Danny Nikolic.

Then, he will take a shot at the Up and Coming Stakes at Randwick races on August 21. After which, Heathcote and his team will assess his performance and decide whether they will have him race further in Sydney or travel to Melbourne for the Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day.

Heathcote also eyes to send Woorim to Melbourne for a string of races which include the Group Two Schweppervesence Stakes at Moonee Valley on the 23rd of September. This race will come after a three-race winning streak with the last one coming at the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Caloundra racecourse on July 3.
