Headlining the Australian horse racing calendar this weekend is the 1500-metre STC Myer Winter Stakes at the Rosehill Racecourse. This quality Listed race has a prize pool of $100,000 and it will be contested by twelve race horses. Each galloper will seek to claim victory at this race before the winter racing carnival ends.

The Peter Moody-trained Ghostmilk turns out to be the pre-race favourite. The six-year-old Golan mare which is under the guidance of the Caulfield-based trainer was scratched from the VRC Winter Championship Final at the Flemington Racecourse wherein her stable mate Doubtful Jack claimed victory. For the Myer Winter Stakes, Ghostmilk has drawn the fifth barrier.
Giving Ghostmilk a run for his money is the Graeme Rogerson-trained Illuminates which recently won the 1400-metre Listed Civic Stakes at the Rosehill Racecourse and he has over 50 race starts to his credit. This five-year-old Strategic mare will start the Myer Winter Stakes wide at the 12th barrier and it will carry a top weight of 58 kg. He will be steered to victory by the reliable Corey Brown.
Not to be left behind is the four-year-old Johannesburg gelding Madibagold which is trained by local favourite David Payne. Madibagold proves to be a strong contender after finishing third to Illuminates at the Listed Civic Stakes.
The Warwick-based trainer Peter Snowden will have two of his horses, Gergis and Falaise, compete at the Myer Winter Stakes. Gergis and Falaise are both coming off solid runs at the Listed Civic Stakes wherein they finished fourth and second respectively. For the Myer winter Stakes, the four-year-old Gergis will start at barrier two while the seven-year-old Falaise will start from barrier four.
Other featured Listed races that are on schedule are the 1100-metre, $100,000 Sir John Monash Stakes at Mooney Valley and the 2200-metre, $75,000 Belmont Classic for three-year-old horses at the Belmont Racecourse.
