Dariana the Early Favourite for 2010 Queensland Oaks
The Bart Cummings-trained Dariana turns out to be the pre-race favourite at the $400,000, Group 1 Queensland Oaks. This prestigious horse race for three-year-old fillies will be held over 2400 metres at the Eagle Farm racecourse. The race is the highlight of the Treasury Casino QLD Oaks Day and the first Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival horse meet ever in Eagle Farm.
This year’s Queensland Oaks has 18 competitors and five emergencies with Dariana being the early favourite with a 3.75 betting odd despite starting from the 19th barrier. During the 2020-metre, Group 3 Doomben Roses, Dariana finished third to Marheta and the longer Queensland Oaks would work to Dariana’s advantage.
Meanwhile, the Michael Moroney-trained Marheta will also compete at the Queensland Oaks after the victory at Doomben. This Al Maher filly will start from the third barrier and is the second pre-race favourite with a 6.00 betting odd from IASbet.
The Doomben Roses’ second placer, Femina Fashion, will also join the Queensland Oaks mix. This Shamardal filly from the Gold Coast with 15 race starts has a 10.00 IASbet betting odd. Not to be disregarded are the Spera, Fairy Oak and Status Quo that finished fourth, fifth and sixth at the Doomben Roses respectively.
The New Zealand thoroughbred Spera will start from barrier one while Fairy Oak has been under the reins of trainer Peter Moody. The Queensland Oaks will be Fairy Oak’s sixth career start. Meanwhile, the Lohnro filly Status Quo is trained by famed trainer Peter Snowden.
Considered as the Queensland Oaks’ dark horse is Miss Keepsake for he registered a spike in betting. Because of which, his initial betting odd of 41.00 became 34.00 as calculated by IASbet to remove her third successive victory.
The 2010 Treasury Casino Queensland Oaks will be a part of an intensity-filled horse raceday which also features the 1400-metre, Group 2 BRC Sire’s Produce Stakes for two-year-olds and has a prize pool of $250,000 and the $150,000, 2200-metre, Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup which was then called the PJ O’ Shea Stakes.
Also included in the day’s events are the $150,000, QTC Cup that is staged over 1300 metres and the $200,000, Group 2 Dane Ripper Quality that will be staged over 1400 metres.
