This Group 1 race has a prize pool of $500,000 and its 2010 sports a superb running cast including the big winners of the 1800-metre, Group 2 Hollindale Stakes namely Metal Bender, Road to Rock and Gold Water. The Chris Waller-trained Hollindale Stakes winner Metal Bender is the pre-race favorite after the draw of the barrier as he carries a 2.90 betting odd.

Metal Bender drew the seventh barrier and will be steered by Kerrin McEvoy due to Hugh Bowman’s eight-meeting suspension. This four-year-old horse looks to back up his victory at the Hollindale Stakes with a victory at the Doomben Cup.

Meanwhile, Road To Rock will be having his final race start in the Doomben Cup before this Anthony Cummings-trained race horse becomes a stud. The horse drew the tenth barrier which is in the wider part of the course. However, Road To Rock possesses the talent and stamina to win over Metal Bender that he is tagged as the second favourite to win the Doomben Cup with a 4.00 betting odd.

If Road To Rock wins this race, he will become a triple Group 1 race winner. Cummings believes that the weather during the race will be a big factor in his chances and he prays that rain won’t fall down so that his horse can finish his racing career on a high note.

On the other hand, the four-year-old Gold Water also drew a wide barrier as he starts the race from the 11th barrier. Despite the wide draw, he still carries a 6.50 betting odd to be the third favourite horse to win the Doomben Cup. Gold Water is racing in Doomben after frustrating finishes in Hollindale and in the 1600-metre Emancipation Stakes wherein he placed second to Sacred Choice.

Not to be disregarded are other horses that would want to pull an upset like the New Zealand colt Sir Time Keeper. This three-year-old horse will start on the second barrier and is coming off a three-win stretch.
Also, Triple Honour can be the dark horse of the 2010 Doomben Cup. Doctor Freemantle could have a good shot at the inside rails if rain would fall on the Doomben racecourse during the race but his unimpressive previous starts gives him a betting odd of only 11.00.

With the excitement starting to heat up, the 2010 Doomben Cup is certainly worth watching. However, the action would be better if you would bet for your favourite horse at your favourite online betting website.
