The first three days of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival will be held at Doomben while two elite horse race schedules will be staged at the Eagle Farm horse racing circuit. The first Group 1 race of the carnival, the 1200-metre BTC Cup, has a prize pool of $400,000 and it will be staged during the inaugural day of the racing carnival.
The BTC Cup is just one of the seven Group 1 races at the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and the most lucrative of which is the 1400-metre Stradbroke Handicap which has a prize pool of $1 million. The Stradbroke Handicap will be held on the 12th of June at Eagle Farm.
The Stradbroke Handicap is part of the racing day wherein multiple Group 1 events are staged. Aside from this, the 1600-metre TJ Smith cup for two-year-olds and the 2400-metre Queensland Derby for three-year-olds are staged on the same day. The TJ Smith and Queensland Derby have an identical prize pool of $500,000.
Since these are prestigious horse races, the owner and horse trainers of Queensland will try their best to claim home turn advantage over their interstate rivals. Aside from the horse races, there will also be a Kirks Doomben Cup Day on May 22 wherein the stars of Packed to the Rafters will sign autographs and meet with fans.
Also, Australian horse racing fans will have a chance to meet Takeover Target on May 29 at the Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 Day. After the Brisbane Winter Carnival, the 1400-metre Winter Stakes, a Group 1 race with a $500,000 prize pool will be staged on the 26th of June.
