Mackinnon Stakes

Traditionally the Mackinnon Stakes was the important lead up run to the Melbourne Cup. While it still serves that purpose, in recent years trainers have taken varied routes to the big race.

This year once again it is a cracking field with a horse bestowed with one of the oddest names in racing heading up the market, Rangirangdoo. The Sydney horse has never been unplaced in his career and although untried at the 2000 metres, the way he disposed of his rivals over “the mile” last weekend suggests he will be very hard to beat. Vigor is still sweating on a start in the Melbourne Cup and he will relish being back at his home track after a terrific third in the Caulfield Cup.

Zipping looked gone in the Cox Plate on the turn but found a second wind to keep him at the top of the betting likewise Scenic Shot while Cima De Triomphe gets a second chance to impress Australian punters after a disappointing Caulfield Cup. Lastly it would be impossible to forget Viewed and the continuation of “Bartmania “. While Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup is the target for this “dynamic duo”, nothing would surprise when it comes to the 82 year old master.
