Sydney Races 22/8
The racing spotlight falls on Sydney races 22/8 at Randwick on Saturday with three Group races and two listed events to be decided. The good horses are returning for the Melbourne Spring Carnival and some handy types make their racetrack return tomorrow.
The first of the Sydney feature races is the Listed (SR 3) TOY SHOW QUALITY over the 1400m trip. The Joseph Pride trained Bejewelled ges the nod here with Jimmy Cassidy in the saddle.
The (SR 4) UP AND COMING STAKES over 1200m is a Group 3 event with the Chris Waller trained Dane Shadow colt Shellscrape the on top selection. SHould be an interesting race from a spring racing point of view with the Jason Coyle trained Champaigne Stakes winner Onemorenomore sure to be rocketing home at the business end.
The (SR 5) SHOW COUNTY QUALITY over 1200m is a Listed event and it looms as a two horse war between Swift Alliance and Albert The Fat. This is a coin toss and I think I’ll take the Queenslander at the slightly better odds.
The (SR 6) WARWICK STAKES is a Group 2 event over the 1400m trip. Some nice horses resuming here including Racing To Win and the Doncaster Handicap winner Vision And Power. I think I’m going to stick with the leader Court Command. He can get a soft lead here and they wont be running him down.
The lucky last on the card is the (SR
SILVER SHADOW STAKES a Group3 event to be run over the 1200m with the Gai Waterhouse trained More Joyous making her racetrack return. Sure to be primed for a first up win, the trick will be getting a price. The Gerald Ryan trained Melito is one to follow looking towards a Spring campaign in Melbourne. By all reports she has been a big improver after time in the paddock.
