Battlefield to Target Royal Ascot Races

Trainer Paul Messara has big plans for his rising 3YO sprinter Battlefield, who took out yesterday’s Listed Ramornie Handicap 1200m at Grafton.
Messara wants to head overseas and target the King’s Stand Stakes and the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot, the two big sprint races won by Battlefield’s sire Choisir in 2003.
Battlefield, with apprentice jockey Darren Ganderton in the saddle, had to overcome a wide barrier in scoring by a length from Forestreno with Attackum a further long neck away in third.
Battlefield was a $300,000 yearling at the 2007 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne and is raced in the same interests as the Golden Slipper winning Miss Finland.
The striking chestnut will now head to Flemington races and have his next start on the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival and line up in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic 1200m.
Meanwhile, Sydney trainer Tim Martin and jockey Tye Angland enjoyed a day out at Grafton races yesterday when they combined to win four of the first five races.
The pair won races 2-5 with the first three winners well supported before Morecamby Bay won the Grafton Guineas at double figure odds.
